Marine In-Service Coating Surveys

We conduct structured in-service coating surveys to assess the condition and performance of protective systems across marine assets. Our inspections follow IACS Enhanced Survey Programme (ESP), IMO PSPC, and classification society requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational readiness. We evaluate coating condition using ISO 4628, ASTM D714, and SSPC visual guides to identify defects such as blistering, cracking, flaking, detachment, and cathodic disbondment.

Survey planning includes dividing tanks and hull structures into defined zones (e.g., deckhead, side shell, transverse bulkheads) using frame and strake references, enabling localized assessment and repair prioritization. We perform non-destructive dry film thickness (DFT) checks and environmental testing (dew point, humidity, soluble salts), and apply rust scale analysis using ISO, ASTM, SSPC, and European standards to quantify breakdown severity. Our team supports classification survey cycles-Annual, Intermediate, and Special-by providing detailed coating condition reports, sampling coordination, and forensic documentation to assist with pre-docking planning, warranty claims, and lifecycle extension strategies.

Services includes:

  • Coating Condition Evaluation & Classification
Conduct structured inspections of marine coatings in accordance with IACS Enhanced Survey Programme (ESP), IMO PSPC, and classification society requirements.
  • Defect Identification & Documentation
Identify common failures such as blistering, cracking, flaking, detachment, and cathodic disbondment using ISO 4628, ASTM D714, and SSPC visual guides
  • Survey Planning & Area Mapping
Divide tanks and hull structures into defined survey zones (e.g., deckhead, side shell, transverse bulkheads) using frame and strake references. Apply localized assessment techniques to ensure accurate reporting and prioritization of repairs.
  • Thickness Measurement & Surface Testing
Conduct non-destructive dry film thickness (DFT) checks and surface condition tests (e.g., dew point, humidity, soluble salts)
  • Rust Scale & Breakdown Analysis
Utilize comparative rust scales (ISO, ASTM, SSPC, European) and visual diagrams to quantify corrosion extent. Support decision-making for maintenance prioritization and coating system selection.
  • Survey Types & Frequency Support
Support classification survey cycles including Annual, Intermediate, and Special Surveys. Provide detailed coating condition reports to assist with pre-docking planning, warranty claims, and lifecycle extension strategies.
  • Sampling & Laboratory Coordination
Collect and preserve coating samples for lab analysis when required. Ensure proper handling, labeling, and documentation to support forensic investigations or failure claims.

Pre-Delivery & Post-Sea Trial Coating Inspections

We perform detailed coating inspections before vessel delivery and after sea trials to ensure protective systems meet specification and warranty requirements. Our underwater hull assessments in drydock identify damage, missed areas, and premature breakdowns prior to handover. We evaluate ballast tank coatings following seawater immersion to detect blistering, delamination, or poor adhesion, and review cargo tank coatings post-cleaning trials to identify defects caused by mechanical cleaning or cargo simulation.

Defect mark-up and repair coordination ensures all issues are documented and rectified before delivery. We compile inspection records, environmental data, and dry film thickness (DFT) measurements for inclusion in the vessel's Coating Technical File (CTF), supporting classification compliance and long-term asset integrity.

Services includes:

  • Underwater Hull Assessment
Inspect hull coatings in drydock prior to delivery to identify damage, missed areas, or premature breakdown.
  • Ballast Tank Seawater Testing
Evaluate coating performance after immersion during sea trials to detect blistering, delamination, or poor adhesion.
  • Cargo Tank Coating Review
